2004 Jeep Gladiator Concept

If ever there was a perfect vehicle in the perfect color at the perfect time, the Jeep Gladiator was it.  The Comanche was out of production, Jeep was juuuuuust introducing the 2004 1/2 Wrangler Unlimited, and the Jeep public was primed and ready for a pickup truck.

Enter Dodge and Ram trucks, who said only THEY could make trucks under the Chrysler umbrella.  Let me tell you right here and now so that we’re all on the same page: Ram makes great trucks.  Really like the Laramie Long Horn.  But … well, because they killed this truck, I’m not a big fan of the division.  I’ll walk to another dealership to buy a Ford King Ranch because this rig didn’t go into production.  Thanks, Ram.

Filson makes awesome more … awesome-y!

The American Expedition Vehicles Brute Double Cab Pickup Truck is one of my all-time favorite off-road vehicles.  They don’t sell them anywhere near me (the closest authorized dealer is down in Oceanside), and they’re the most expensive Jeep I’ve ever lusted after.

The AEV Brute Double Cab is a customized 4-door JK Jeep Wrangler, that’s stretched, beefed up, and made spectacular by the Michigan-based company, American Expedition Vehicles with skid plates, available Warn winch packages, and more.  There are even more varying degrees of awesome available from the factory.  This particular vehicle offering is not just the upgraded JK, though.  Underneath that sheet metal beats 6.4 liters of American Hemi V8 can-do whup-ass.  This Jeep is the Captain America of Jeeps.  It is hoo-rah on wheels.

Happy Birthday, Jeep!

On August 1, 1941 the legendary Jeep was born.

From Wikipedia:

The first Willys MB Jeeps were produced in 1941 with the first civilian models in 1945, making it the oldest off-road vehicle and sport utility vehicle (SUV) brand. It inspired a number of other light utility vehicles, such as the Land Rover which is the second oldest 4-wheel-drive brand. The original Jeep vehicle that first appeared as the prototype Bantam BRC became the primary light 4-wheel-drive vehicle of the United States Army and Allies during World War II, as well as the postwar period. Many Jeep variants serving similar military and civilian roles have since been created in other nations.

21st Annual Big Bear Jeep Jamboree May 9 – 11, 2013

Jeep Jamborees are off-road adventure weekends that bring together the outdoors, down-to-earth people, and their Jeep 4x4s.

Jeep Jamboree began in 1953 when Mark A. Smith, along with a small group of friends and Rotarians were looking for a way to boost the economy of Georgetown USA. 155 people showed up for the first Jamboree, which followed the Rubicon Trail, snaking it’s way across the Sierra Nevada mountains in Northern California. The next year, the manufacturer of Jeeps – Willys Motors – became involved, and the Jeep Jamboree adventure has continued ever since.

This year marks the 21st year the Big Bear Jeep Jamboree has taken place in Big Bear Lake, California.

This particular Jamboree is a “Select Jamboree”  – it includes Friday and Saturday night family style dinners (participants have the option to prepare their own meals or sample the AWESOME Big Bear restaurants for all other meals).

On Thursday, May 9th (from 5 – 7pm) MANDATORY registration will take place at the Big Bear Lake Elks Lodge (40611 Village Drive in Big Bear Lake, 909-866-6190).  Trail sign-ups will take place during registration on a first come, first served basis, so get there EARLY and register!. Remember that a vehicle check is MANDATORY PRIOR TO trail sign-ups, and there is no late registration available on Friday morning.
