The Land and Water Conservation Fund is a federal program was established by Congress in 1964 through a bipartisan commitment to safeguard our public lands – the natural areas, water resources and cultural heritage for all Americans – and provide funds and matching grants to federal, state, and local governments to acquire land, water, and easements. Through funding provided from offshore oil and gas leasing, the LWCF has protected and expanded habitat and preserved access to outdoor recreation in all fifty states, which makes it our nation’s most successful conservation program.

Today the National Park Service announced $1.9 million in indian tribes and museums across the United States to “assist in the consultation, documentation, and repatriation of ancestral remains and cultural items as part of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA).
After the largely unnecessary closure of Yosemite National Park due to the nonsensical mediademic imposed by Gavin Newsom, Yosemite is now reopening.
It was FAR more worthwhile to visit it while it was closed. With the newly imposed limits to visitors, though, it could still be considered a great destination because of the much smaller and distanced crowds. It should seem more like a National Park with wide open spaces instead of Galaxy’s Edge at Star Wars during Labor Day Weekend.
Earlier this week, Yosemite National Park closed all campgrounds and visitor centers. The park’s entrance and hiking trails remained open.
After the governor issued his ridiculous ‘shelter in place’ nonsense, however, Yosemite has now been shuttered to all visitors for an indefinite period of time due to the Chinese Coronavirus. No one is allowed into the park except for residents who live within the boundaries of the park or at Yosemite West who have to use NPS roads to get to their homes, and authorized National Park Service personnel.
