CourseSmart Survey: college students are relying more and more on ebooks

CourseSmart has been working with publishers, educators and students since 2007 to integrate ebooks and digital content into college technology ecosystems, bringing digital course materials directly to faculty and student bodies.

While they’re certainly biased towards digital over dead-tree media, they have used Wakefield Research – an independent research firm – to conduct a survey about students and their increasing reliance on technology.  The result is their “Third Annual Survey on Education and Technology.”

Yanks Air Museum Open Cockpit Day: P-40 Warhawk July 20th

Yanks Air Museum at the Chino Airport is hosting an open cockpit day on July 20th, 2013.

See the world differently gazing out of a fighter aircraft. Join us for the 1st ever OPEN COCKPIT DAY featuring the P-40 Warhawk. Step back into the 1940’s, Yanks’ authentic fighter cockpits are complete and original.

Tour the Super Constellation, this aircraft flew classified, secret missions to detect invasion from USSR bombers during the 1950’s. She is complete, airworthy and original as any “Connie” we have ever seen. Visit with Connie specialist Gary Harrington to learn more about AEW, Radiomen and their missions.

Train with the 82nd Airborne Living History Re-enactors and jump from the C-47 Skytrain.

Planes of Fame Hosting United We Win – Minorities in WWII Event October 12th

The Planes of Fame Air Museum’s living history event for July is United We Win – Minorities in WWII, featuring the North American P-51 Mustang.

Open to the public, Planes of Fame Air Museum (Chino, CA) presents its monthly Living History Event. The topic for the October 12 event is ‘United We Win – Minorities in WWII’, featuring the North American P-51 Mustang. A speaker panel of distinguished aviation experts, historians and veterans is featured, followed by a question & answer period and flight demonstration when possible. The P-51 will be on display and will perform a flight demonstration. At 12:00 noon, the Membership Sponsored raffle flight will occur.

Proposal to transfer Giant Sequoia Monument

Suzy Johnson at the California Association of 4WD Clubs has posted an Access Alert related to the National Giant Sequoia Monument, and I’m forwarding the information on along to you guys.  If you’re at all concerned about access to California’s public lands, it’s important that you get involved.

Proposed plan to transfer Giant Sequoia National Monument from the control of the US Forest Service to the National Park Service would result in loss of recreation opportunities

We need all of our members to urgently write a letter to the President, federal and local legislators opposing a proposal being floated to move the management and control of the Giant Sequoia National Monument from the USFS to the National Park Service.
