It’s already started back in D.C.
The National Park Service is REMOVING trash cans from national parks under a new “Trash Free Park” program that’s being instituted in some parks outside of California. According to the Question/Answer sheet found HERE, this is the idea behind the program:
“…Visitors are responsible for removing all refuse they generate in the park when they leave the park. Trash must be picked up and the area left in a clean condition before departure. Visitors are encouraged to come prepared when visiting the park. If they plan to picnic, barbecue, or in any way generate waste, they should plan ahead to provide the means to organize materials needed, and correctly package items and refuse, in order to efficiently remove it with them by the means in which they came -by walking, metro, bicycle, car, etc.. The park encourages visitors to consider how they package items. Using materials that can be recycled or composted when they return home is a positive way to help the environment…”
I don’t know about you, but my questions in no reflect the rainbows and unicorns questions dreamed up but the NPS flunky who wrote that sheet up. My only question is this:
What fucking moron came up with this idiotic plan?
Obviously, the answer to my rhetorical question is: someone who has never been outside their parent’s basement.
People won’t take their trash with them. They’ll leave it behind – like they already do, trash can or no trash can. Maybe they’ll be nice enough to throw it in a fire pit, but the more likely action is that they’ll just leave it. And animals will get into it. And it will get spread everywhere and it will destroy our public lands.
This dumbassed and poorly thought out ‘plan’ is already being shown to be a failure in the parks that it’s been implemented in. People are just dumping their trash everywhere. According to WJLA:
While these visitors have no problem going green, Parker says people are already finding other ways to get rid of the garbage.
“You see the toilet seat full of McDonald’s bags, this bag and feces–and come on now!”
Gee, really?
People are already clogging up toilets with trash? Did you guys at the NPS NOT see that coming? What’s next? Taking away the toilets?
I would recommend that everyone who was involved with coming up with this idiot plan get out to a national park on a clean the trails day and see how people already treat their national parks. See how many tons of garbage we pull out of these places.
The endgame is, obviously, to make it as painful as possible for visitors to enjoy our parks, and to ultimately shut down public lands.
Fight it! Don’t let this program come to your state!
